Fire

1959 – Saint Alban’s Church, Washington, DC

It is amazing how Rowan and Irene capture movement in these windows and the motion of this window is of flames dancing and leaping.  The fiery oranges, reds and yellows are consuming the blues and greens.  The red glass has some wonderful texture in it and the paint is just used to add a bit of character to the flames.

Iconography

This is one of four abstract windows celebrating the classical elements of earth, air, fire and water.  This one is fire and just what it is consuming is not clear but somehow they have captured the feeling of a friendly fire that is warming our hearts.   We hope that future research will uncover Rowan and Irene’s thinking behind these windows.
